United Supermarkets Expands its Gas Station Concept
"Market Street" stores begin spreading across Texas. United Supermarket has begun expanding its Market Street brand after a successful run in McKinney, Texas. Currently, stores are being built in Allen and Frisco, Texas, according to Inside Collin County Business. Both stores are planned to open in 2008."The store will have all the bells and whistles of recently constructed Market Street stores, including a fuel station, drive-thru pharmacy, and 'A Taste of Market Street,'" Dan Sander, CEO of United Supermarkets, told the newspaper. While the stores are smaller than average supermarkets and feature gas tanks in the parking lot, Sander said the company isn't marketing the chain as "convenience stores," though they offer many of similar products such as grab-and-go snacks and meals, baked goods and branded Peet's Coffee. The new stores will also feature a drive-thru convenience window.
