National Weather Service meteorologists said the chances are good that Collin County will experience some snowfall on Monday night. The NWS issued a winter weather advisory for Monday afternoon and evening with anywhere from one to three inches of snow expected to fall on Collin County and other northern parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to NWS alerts.Collin County has a 60 percent chance of precipitation later tonight with most of it being rain and snow before midnight. Meteorologists predict the chances for snow are greater after sunset, according to NWS forecasts.Tara Dudzik, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Fort Worth, said a cold front that blew through Collin County on Monday morning after some heavy rains Sunday night and early Monday morning are to blame for the snowy weather forecasts."We have a lot of cold air from that cold front that came through this morning," Dudzik said. "Combined with the upper level disturbance, that is going to help produce the snow that combined with the cold air behind that cold front."The cold front carries air with temperatures that could fall as low as the lower 30s. Dudzik said this cold air will create the snow. "Anytime you an get upper level disturbance, it creates an upward vertical motion when you get storms and rain," Dudzik said, "but in this case, since the air is so cold from the cold front, it's going to fall as snow instead of rain."Dudzik urges drivers to use caution on the road especially on bridges and overpasses where freezes are more likely to occur first. She also said even though the temperature will dip below freezing, it may not last long enough to cause major problems to plumbing and exposed pipes.
